Child Protection Policy Statement

This statement was agreed at a Church meeting on …………………………………………
It will be read at the Annual Church meeting where progress in carrying it out will be reviewed.

As members of Hartshill Bible Church, we welcome children and young people as part of our Church fellowship today. They have much to give as well as receive. We commit ourselves to praying for them and to actively ensuring that we provide distinctively Christian teaching in an atmosphere of safety and enjoyment.

In addition,

  • We recognise that our work with children and young people is the responsibility of the whole church. Only Christians who are Church Members or Church Workers will be permitted to work directly with children and young people.
  • We commit ourselves to the nurturing and safekeeping of all children and young people within our activities. We will value and listen to them. We will relate effectively to them while ensuring their protection.
  • We are committed to supporting and providing resources and training to those who work with children and adequate supervision. We will also encourage and support parents and carers.
  • We accept that it is the responsibility of each one of us to prevent the physical, sexual and emotional abuse of children and young people, and to have procedures in place to handle appropriately any abuse discovered or suspected.
  • We will follow the principles of the Home Office Code of Practice “Safe from Harm” and adopt the guidelines as set out in this document.
  • All those working with children must accept, follow and undertake to observe the policies and procedures defined in the Child Protection Policy Handbook. Each worker will be given a copy of this Handbook.
  • As part of our commitment to children and young people, we have appointed Angie Bettany to the role of Child Protection Co-Ordinator. She will report directly to the Elder in charge of children’s and young peoples work if anything causes concern about a child or young person. Her name and address is available on the church website.
